Ah, fall. One of the best times of the year, in my opinion.
Although I (somewhat unfortunately) live in the southeastern portion of the United States, so my experience with fall foliage and brisk temperatures is limited, I still quite enjoy the feeling that this time of the year brings.
The fall months are full of coziness everywhere you look. Fluffy blankets, roaring fires, pumpkin spice candles, apple cider… the list goes on. If you, like me, live somewhere that the cooler weather and falling leaves don’t exactly reach, you may need a bit of a lifeline to participate in the autumn activities.
Not to fear, though- I’ve got you covered on how to create your coziest fall season yet!
Practice the hygge lifestyle
Never heard of hygge? The word has Danish origins, essentially with the meaning of creating a warm and cozy atmosphere for yourself in which you feel comfortable, content, and happy. Think of all of the things that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside- the warm glow of a candle, the crackling of a fire, the smell of freshly baked goods- that is what hygge embodies. To practice hygge, try out some things like decluttering your home space and adding some cozy blankets and pillows, starting a book club, finding a pen-pal, going for sunrise or sunset walks a few times a week, or of course, setting a goal to read a certain number of book pages a day.
Find local fall activities in your town
Does your town have any pumpkin patches, apple orchards, or fall festivals? If so, make sure to try out a handful of these things. Not only can you pick out your own haul of fall produce (hint hint- pumpkins), but there are usually tons of yummy food and drink vendors to try out, corn mazes to frolic through, and plenty of games to play.
Have a movie marathon
I don’t know about you, but the moment it hits September/October, I immediately have the urge to sit down and have a movie marathon. What movies, you ask? Only the best. Harry Potter, Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, and Little Women make up a portion of my lift of fall movie favorites. While you’re at it, why not add TV shows like Gilmore Girls to the list?
Try out some new recipes
One of my favorite aspects of fall is the influx of recipes that pop up online. Some of my favorites include apple cider donuts, vegan sweet potato chili, butternut squash mac and cheese, and of course, the multitude of pumpkin desserts.
Practice gratitude whenever you have the chance
Much like any other time of the year, it is important to ground yourself and take time to reflect on the good things in life every once in a while, even if it’s only the little things. Like, hey, I worked really hard this year to get to the place I’m in and deserve a little pat on the back. Or, wow, I really love the people in my life who support me in every way possible. We could all take a page out of Anne of Green Gables, and be really grateful for the time of year.
“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

Fall is the perfect time to try out some different ways to make your life just a little cozier. There are tons of ways to do so, but the contents of this list are some of my favorite. What are your favorite
